A tropical depression could form soon, and 3 other systems to watch. What forecast says
The Atlantic basin is bustling with tropical activity.
One of four disturbances in the Atlantic has a high chance of becoming a tropical depression in the next five days, the National Hurricane Center said Monday in its 8 p.m. forecast.
At the moment, none of the systems are a threat to Florida.
Here’s what to know:
Atlantic disturbance has high chance of formation, forecasters say
The disturbance that has a medium 50% chance of formation in the next 48 hours and a high 80% chance of formation through the next five days was producing a large area of disorganized showers and cloudiness in the central Atlantic on Monday night, according to the hurricane center.
The forecast shows it moving slowly west and then west-northwest, toward the adjacent waters of the northern Leeward Islands.
The system, described as a broad area of low pressure, is expected to see some gradual development over the next few days, with a tropical depression likely to form later this week, even though conditions are only “marginally conducive” for development, according to the hurricane center.

What about the other systems?
The hurricane center expects a trough of low pressure could develop over the northwestern Caribbean Sea this week.
“The system, however, is likely to move inland over Central America or the southern portion of the Yucatan Peninsula before significant development can occur,” the hurricane center said.
As for the other two disturbances, one was forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa by Monday night and could see some gradual development as it moves west to west-northwest across the far eastern Atlantic.
“The system could become a short-lived tropical depression over the far eastern Atlantic waters during the next few days,” the hurricane center said. “By late this week, the disturbance is forecast to move over cooler waters and further development is not likely.”
The other system was producing some showers about 600 miles east of Bermuda Monday night.
”Strong upper-level winds and dry air are expected to prevent development while the system drifts south-southwestward over the next day or so,” the hurricane center said. “The system is likely to dissipate later this week.”
The next storm name on the list for the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season is Danielle.
