An extended weather warning from the Florida Keys to Palm Beach leads to a cancellation

The National Weather Service in Miami’s updated forecast contains a warning that has led to at least one cancellation for this weekend.

A rip current alert that had been forecast through Friday now extends through Sunday evening, according to meteorologist Robert Frye in Miami’s weather service office.

The alert covers beaches from Miami-Dade through Palm Beach counties.

Along with the rip currents, persistent wind gusts up to 30 mph along the Atlantic Coast have kept a small craft advisory intact, and these hazardous marine conditions, with seas of seven to nine feet, will continue through the weekend, including in the Florida Keys.

So Florida International University has postponed the 18th annual Fishing Tournament & Block Party that was set for Sunday with its after-party at Monty’s in Coconut Grove. The new date is now June 5.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible Friday night through Monday on a 30% chance, declining to 20% Monday, according to the weather service.

Expect temperatures in the low to mid-80s through Wednesday, according to NBC6 meteorologist Adam Berg.
