3 weather warnings issued in Florida. Take note if you’re swimming, boating or driving.
Weather conditions may look calm in South Florida on Wednesday, but forecasters have issued advisories for potential danger in the water and on land.
With a brush fire burning in West Miami-Dade, the National Weather Service issued a “red flag warning” for parts of Florida and shared wildfire safety tips.
And forecasters are also warning South Florida about conditions that could bring trouble to your beach trip Wednesday. The weather service in Miami says there’s a high risk of rip currents along Atlantic beaches at least through Thursday, with a moderate risk for rip currents along Gulf Coast beaches.
“Increasing winds and seas” will also lead to hazardous marine conditions across South Florida waters, the weather service’s hazardous weather outlook states.
And if you’re planning to take the boat out, be careful in the choppy waters. A small craft advisory is in effect at least until Thursday because of strong winds. The forecast is also calling for muggy weather this weekend.
As for the brush fire off Southwest Eighth Street and 137th Avenue, officials say there’s no threat to homes in the area. However, now would be a good time to go over some wildfire safety tips. After all, it has been “abnormally dry” in South Florida, said WSVN meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez.
Forecasters have also issued a “red flag warning” for inland Collier and Glades counties, which means there’s an increased risk of fire danger due to warm temperatures, low humidity and strong winds.
Due to the fire risk, the National Weather Service says people should keep their vehicles off dry grass, properly discard cigarettes and avoid any activities involving open flames or sparks. You should also avoid using any power equipment that creates sparks, the weather service said.
Will Mother Nature send some rain soon to help our dry spell? Maybe.
Forecasters say there’s a 20% chance of rain in Miami-Dade Friday, increasing to 30% and 40% Sunday. In Broward County, the rain chance is slightly higher at 30% and 40% Friday, with up to a 50% chance on Sunday. In the Keys, there’s a 10% chance of rain this weekend.
