South Florida likely will have a sunny Christmas after cold front moves away
Santa probably won’t need to hold an umbrella to deliver Christmas gifts in Miami after all, despite Tuesday’s severe weather warnings: Drier and sunny weather is on its way, say forecasters.
A cold front that brought sporadic rain and strong wind gusts to the region is behind us, said Senior Meteorologist Robert Frye of the National Weather Service in Miami.
Instead, daytime high temperatures on Friday are expected to be in the mid-70s; on Christmas, daytime high temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s, he said.
“The weather looks beautiful,” Frye said.

CBS4’s Lissette Gonzalez foresees “a much cooler start” for Wednesday, with a low of 58 degrees and a high of 74. For Thursday, she forecasts lows dipping to 54, with temperatures ticking up a bit on Friday; the highs later in the week will range from the mid- to upper-70s, she believes.
Friday (Christmas Day), Saturday, and Sunday (Boxing Day) should be “beautiful,” Gonzalez says, with highs of 80 and lows of 58. She also foresees plenty of sun into the next work week, with temperatures range running from a high of 82 to a low of 62 on Monday.
“Cold temperatures in the wake of the cold front, with wind chills in the low-mid 40s are possible across the Lake Okeechobee region Thursday and Friday mornings,” National Weather Service Miami / South Florida meteorologist Paxton Fell said in her report.
Also: While there are rip-current warnings in place as of now, use caution if you are planning to take a swim or head out onto the water. And heed the weather service’s “stay weather aware” alerts as we head through this week.
