‘What not to do.’ Adults, children wade into Cristobal surf on Gulfport beach
A video posted to Twitter Sunday morning shows adults and children wading into the Mississippi Sound on the beach near Courthouse Road as rain, wind and storm surge from Tropical Storm Cristobal pushed into the Coast.
The video, captioned “What not to do,” shows one man out far into the surf while other adults and children splash and play in the water near shore.
Storm surge has already been reported across the Coast, with water taking over the road near Henderson Avenue in Pass Christian and other areas in Harrison County, said Harrison County spokesman Jeff Clark. Beaches and roads are flooded in some areas of Waveland, Long Beach and Biloxi.
The National Hurricane Center says 3 to 5 feet of storm surge is expected in South Mississippi.
Clark said residents should not be putting themselves in harm’s way during tropical weather.
“The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is asking residents to stay off the beaches,” Clark said. “Unless your travel is absolutely necessary, please stay home.”
