Could South Florida see another week of storms and floods? Forecast says be prepared
After last week’s daily deluge that left much of South Florida under water the last few days of dry air, sun and heat might have felt like blessed relief.
Alas, get ready for another round of storms beginning in earnest Wednesday, the National Weather Service in Miami says.
These thunderstorms will linger through the week into Saturday and bring periods of locally heavy rainfall. That could mean more flooding.
Gusty winds are also expected with the stronger thunderstorms, especially Wednesday night and Thursday when the rain chances are 70% and 80%, respectively.
Rain chances inch up Tuesday
While there is a 20% chance of showers Tuesday, the percentage bumps to 40 by nightfall.
According to the weather service, a frontal system will make its way into Palm Beach County and the Lake Okeechobee area Tuesday afternoon, boosting the rain chances.
Showers and thunderstorms are also likely over Southwest Florida in the afternoon. Atlantic beaches will have a high risk of rip currents and these will persist into the weekend.
The Florida Keys is mostly clear in the mid 80s and has a 30% chance of rain Tuesday afternoon and 50% Wednesday and Thursday.
Summer’s here
“Welcome to June,” says CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.
Tuesday’s steamy start at 85% “already feels like the upper 80s and low 90s due to high humidity,” she said.
Tropical Storm Cristobal
Meantime, Tropical Storm Cristobal, the earliest third named storm in recorded history, could form Tuesday in the Gulf of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center.
