Details on the Flood Watch that could affect Memorial Day Weekend plans for South Florida

Forecasts long predicted the rains of this South Florida Memorial Day Weekend. But something new has been added by the National Weather Service in Sunday’s wee hours.

A Flood Watch for Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Naples.

Or, as the National Weather Service put it in issuing the flood watch, “Coastal Broward, Coastal Collier, Coastal Miami-Dade, Far South Miami-Dade, Inland Broward, Inland Collier, Inland Miami-Dade, Mainland Monroe, Metro Broward, and Metro Miami-Dade.”

And this watch runs from 2 p.m. Sunday through the evening of Monday, Memorial Day. The NWS expects 2 to 4 inches of rain on average around South Florida with some places getting up to 6 inches.

“Torrential rainfall may produce flooding of poor drainage areas in urban locations as well as small creeks, streams, and canals,” the watch says.

So, maybe there’s another couple of days of streaming and bingeing in your near future.
