On #NationalSkyAwarenessWeek, South Florida shows plenty of clear sky until Friday’s shift

Expect another dry and hot day in South Florida with highs in the upper 80s to 90 degrees.

Near record heat Thursday afternoon is possible amid a brisk breeze of 25 mph, said CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.

But soon, “the picture across South Florida will begin to change Thursday night and through the weekend as a cold front approaches the area from the north,” the National Weather Service in Miami said Thursday morning.

The cold front won’t be especially “cold,” however. How does a low of 72 degrees Sunday sound?

That Sunday low, on a high of 87 degrees, according to the Weather Channel’s South Florida forecast, matches what we have been enjoying in the morning hours this week in Miami-Dade and Broward.

Rain ramps up beginning Friday night into Sunday night where it will be a steady 50% chance.

The National Weather Service also warns of dangerous rip currents along coastal waters in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade but the beaches are currently closed in the tri-county area due to COVID-19.

And did you know it’s #NationalSkyAwarenessWeek?

We did not, either.

But meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Key West point out that it is such a week and that today’s cloud is the cirrus cloud.

We will see plenty of these typically white, wispy and silky clouds high in the sky today before we, hopefully, get some much-needed rain in parts of South Florida.
