A severe thunderstorm warning, with a tornado chance, issued for parts of South Florida

Severe thunderstorms, with the possibility of an isolated tornado, are lashing parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service in Miami issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties, including Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah and Miami through 4:30 p.m.

In a hazardous weather outlook alert, the weather service said that the storms are forecast to continue into the late afternoon hours and could include wind gusts topping 60 mph.

“A tornado is possible this afternoon, with the greatest risk across Palm Beach, Broward, and northern Miami-Dade counties,” the weather service said.

WPLG is also reporting the storms could contain hail, along with the chance for “intense downpours.”
