Think the hot Florida weather is here to stay? A cold front is on the way again

Maybe Florida weather isn’t as unpredictable as we thought.

At least not the last few weeks.

Another cold front is about to blast Florida midweek — much like the cold front last week that plunged temperatures in the Panhandle to the 30s and in South Florida to the low 50s.

During the last one, some shivering soul in Miami tweeted, “This cold is UGLY. I would like my Miami 305 heat back.”

Mother Nature heard the plea and, like last week and the week before, the workweek started off warm.

Warm first, then thunderstorms

Tuesday hit 80 degrees by the morning commute and will climb a couple more degrees into the afternoon, the National Weather Service in Miami said.

“Short sleeves for sure and stay hydrated,” said CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez on Twitter Tuesday morning.

Wednesday “will soar into the mid- to upper 80s ahead of a strong cold front,” said WSVN meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez. “By Thursday, it will be a cool day in the 60s. Cold in the 40s to start on Friday.”

The cold, preceded by a 50% chance of thunderstorms Wednesday and 60% Wednesday night in South Florida, will descend on the rest of the state, too.

Lows around Florida

The Tampa Bay area eyes a low of 44 degrees Thursday night, and highs will climb only into the mid-60s through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The wind chill will make it feel even closer to the upper 30s in the Bradenton-Tampa Bay area Thursday night into Friday morning. “Make sure to dress in layers to protect yourself from the cold,” the National Weather Service said.

Wednesday will be a washout in Orlando, with thunderstorm chance at 80% ahead of the front that will bring a low of 41 degrees to Walt Disney territory on Thursday night, the weather service forecasts.

Florida’s Treasure Coast region of Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties will see a dip into the low 40s and upper 30s by Thursday morning, TCPalm reported, citing AccuWeather and the National Weather Service.

And, like last week, Gainesville sees a low of 33 degrees on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville. Jacksonville’s low is forecast at 36 degrees Thursday.

A bit of a warmup begins over the weekend, but it won’t quite be swimming weather.

Miami-Dade and Broward will enjoy clear skies and climb back to about 70 degrees Saturday and Sunday with lows in the 50s. Monday’s high is 72 degrees.

The primary hazard Wednesday and Thursday is lightning strikes during the thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

There is also a rip current warning for Tuesday, and marine conditions won’t improve as the cold front passes through.
