Is South Florida in for a repeat of pre-Super Bowl weather?
South Florida could get another taste of pre-Super Bowl 54 weather by this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Miami.
This means another round of thunderstorms is forecast for Friday — a 70% chance for rain on and off through the day. The storms should clear out by Saturday and Sunday when rain chances drop to 20%.
The big difference, of course, is there isn’t a Harry Styles concert to throw into chaos as happened at the temporary Meridian venue on Watson Island last Friday. By the time Styles — who arrived late — was ready to perform near midnight, emergency officials evacuated the venue due to severe thunderstorms, flooding and brisk winds.
Two days later, Super Bowl 54 played under glorious skies and cool temperatures in the 50s Sunday night in Miami Gardens.
That’s another difference for this coming weekend. Lows are only forecast to dip to 66 degrees amid the Friday storms, where wind gusts could approach 25 mph. Highs on Saturday and Sunday should be about 78 degrees.
The same basic weather pattern is forecast for the Florida Keys, except there’s a slightly lower chance of storms Friday, but still a significant 60%.
Pack an umbrella for your day trip and know that marine and beach conditions will likely be unsuitable for water activities on Friday.
