When will Florida start acting seasonal again? Weather forecasters say brace yourself

Think of South Florida’s weather as the beverages you might pick up at a convenience store:

This week’s afternoons have felt as toasty as a hot chocolate in Miami, the Keys, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Tampa Bay. Even Jacksonville and Gainesville have hit unseasonably warm 80s.

Meteorologist are calling what we’ve felt a result of the Bermuda High, a clockwise swirl of high pressure in the Atlantic that had taken residence and kept Florida warmer than a usual January, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.

Starting Tuesday, it’s going to feel like a bracing Icee.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a strong cold front is forecast to move through South Florida Monday night. Other parts of Florida will shiver as well.

The cool-off will pull temperatures and wind chills into the 30s in parts of Southwest Florida and the 40s in South Florida on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the center predicts.

But before we break out the ponchos and start drinking hot chocolate and eating churros, this week we still have the comfy mid-60s mornings in parts of South Florida, like Kendall, and highs near 80 Thursday into the weekend.

Rain chances bump up Friday, along with the breezes, and the three-day weekend could see rain on Martin Luther King Day parades — about a 40% chance in Miami-Dade and 30% in Key West and Bradenton.
