Man sleeping on tracks in Fort Lauderdale struck and killed by train

An early morning accident Friday involving a freight train that reportedly struck a man brought three major intersections to a halt in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The accident happened near the 1400 block of Northeast 11 Avenue.

WPLG Local 10 News reported that a man in his 40s had been sleeping on the tracks when he was fatally struck by the train.

Crossings at Sunrise Boulevard, Northeast 13 Street and Northeast 17 Court were blocked by the train on the Florida East Coast railway tracks but reopened around 8:30 a.m.

Police are investigating the incident.
