Traffic alert: Detours, delays and shutdowns at or near these Miami events

Memorial Day weekend in Miami-Dade means beach visits, special events and traffic. It can also mean detours and delays in South Beach, downtown Miami and the airport area.

Here’s a rundown of some traffic choke points during the holiday stretch:

Hyundai Air & Sea Show in Miami Beach

File, 2025: Members of the U.S. Army Golden Knights prepare to land on South Beach during the Hyundai Air & Sea Show, part of Miami Beach’s annual National Salute to America’s Heroes, on Saturday, May 24, 2025.

Street closures: Expect closures on Ocean Drive between 14th and 15th streets, which will be closed until Monday.

Residential zones: Traffic restrictions will be in place each evening from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday through Sunday in the Flamingo Park and South of Fifth neighborhoods. Barricades will restrict cut-through traffic, and residents are encouraged to use Alton Road for neighborhood access.

License plate readers: Fixed and mobile readers citywide, including along the Fifth Street and 41st Street corridors from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Best of the Best in downtown Miami

Street closures: None planned around the music festival at Maurice Ferré Park, 1075 Biscayne Blvd., but Miami police say drivers should expect congestion around the event and heavier traffic than usual into and out of downtown Miami.

Event hours: Bets of the Best runs 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Nu Stadium near Miami airport

Inter Miami game: Travelers heading to or out of Miami International Airport can expect congestion in the area Sunday afternoon and again late Sunday as fans head to and from Nu Stadium for Inter Miami’s match against Philadelphia.

Airport advisory: Miami International Airport has sent out this advisory during past games at the stadium, 1900 NW 37th Ave.: “We encourage you to plan ahead and consider arriving early to the airport. If you’re connecting through MIA and leave the airport between flights, be sure to allow for extra commuting time around the airport.”

Game time: The Inter Miami match kicks off at 7 p.m. Sunday Stadium parking typically opens three hours prior to game time. Entrances for stadium parking are on the northbound side of Le Jeune Road across from MIA, on Northwest 14th Street and on Douglas Road, so travelers and soccer fans will be using the same highway exits and entrances from the Dolphin Expressway.

Train advisory: Expect Metrorail and Tri-Rail to be more crowded than usual into the Miami airport transit station. Nu Stadium is about a 15-minute walk for rail commuters.
