Traffic alert: Closed streets, construction, maybe Trump at F1 Miami Grand Prix
Road closures in Miami Gardens for Formula 1 Crypto.com Miami Grand Prix Weekend start Thursday morning. And no one’s stopping construction in the Golden Glades spaghetti bowl.
Plus, a presidential pop-up might gum up traffic further here, there and everywhere in Miami-Dade.
So, let’s look at the transportation options for getting you to and from the Miami International Autodrome in Miami Gardens on Friday (gates open at 11:30 a.m.); Saturday (10 a.m.); and Sunday (8 a.m.).

Driving with the streets closed
In normal times, drivers can find easy access and egress at Hard Rock Stadium via Florida’s Turnpike, Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 199th Street. For the Miami Grand Prix, getting there can be half the annoyance.
That’s because each of those main arteries will be closed at some point: the 2X Turnpike exit, from north and south, from 9 a.m. Thursday until 10 p.m. Sunday; Northwest 199th Street from 27th Avenue to 14th Court and northbound Northwest 27th Avenue on Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m, and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Combine the Miami Grand Prix street and turnpike exit closures with Golden Glades and Interstate 95 construction, and you might blow through a playlist or two sitting in traffic leaving the stadium.

Though a standard Miami driving experience — INRIX’s 2025 Global Traffic Scorecard says the average Miami driver lost 75 hours to traffic congestion, tied with Atlanta for seventh in North and South America and 15th in the world — there are other ways to get to the track via car or even mass transit.
Where to put it in ‘park’
Whether coming by car, rideshare or public transportation (Miami-Dade Transit bus, Broward County Transit, Brightline), you can catch Park and Ride shuttles from the Hard Rock Hotel, 1 Seminole Way; Lot 60 at Broward College’s South Campus, 7200 Pines Blvd.; the Aventura Brightline station, 19796 W. Dixie Hwy; or, Lot 95 of the Golden Glades Park & Ride, 15890 NW Seventh Ave. The shuttles will run from 30 minutes before the gates open until 30 minutes after the campus closes.
Drivers parking at these locations will need to buy a parking pass on the Miami Grand Prix website before arriving, just as those wishing to park at the stadium do.
Lawn parking is available from the Miami Gardens residents who have caught the entrepreneurial spirit of Speedway, Indiana, residents on Indianapolis 500 Race Day and Little Havana homeowners during events at the old Orange Bowl or loanDepot Park. Prices are whatever can be agreed upon.
Possible presidential problems
The PGA Tour’s Cadillac Championship returns to Trump National Doral for the first time since 2016, when Donald Trump was the surprising leader among Republican presidential candidates during primary season and current world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was two years from joining the PGA Tour.
What this means for traffic: Don’t be surprised if the First Golfer finds his way to Miami this weekend for the Cadillac and, possibly, the Miami Grand Prix, which Trump attended in 2024 while out of office. Any presence of the president in any part of town can cause multiple nearby highway closures for security purposes.
