A woman died Thursday after running a red light and crashing into a Miami-Dade Transit bus, according to Miami Gardens Police.

At around 5 a.m., a 22-year-old woman was driving a gray Hyundai Sonata east on Northwest 199th Street and ran a red light, colliding with the public bus, which had a green arrow while turning left onto Northwest Seventh Avenue, according to police.

The driver of the Hyundai, who was not identified by police, died at the crash scene. A bus passenger complained of injuries and was taken to the hospital, police say.

TV station footage from the wreck shows the Hyundai and bus had extensive damage, with debris scattered across the road.

Northwest 199th Street was closed early Thursday morning as investigators worked at the scene. Traffic was being diverted, and drivers were urged to avoid the area and use Miami Gardens Drive, 183rd Street, as an alternate route.
