Southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike near Miami Gardens reopened Monday afternoon hours after a fiery, rear-end collision involving two tractor-trailers led to the death of a woman driver — leading to massive congestion in the area just before rush hour, officials say.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon on the southbound of the Florida Turnpike near NW 199 St. in Miami Gardens, Florida Highway Patrol said.

A white tractor trailer hit a Black Nissan before hitting another 18-wheeler.

During the first collision, the woman driving the tractor trailer was launched from the cab onto the roadway and died at the scene. The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with non-fatal injuries.
