I-95 closed northbound at Oakland Park Boulevard in crash that kills woman
A multi-car collision on I-95 Monday morning led to major issues on the roadway, with I-95 north closed at Oakland Park Boulevard, traffic backed up for miles to Broward Boulevard and a woman died.
The crash occurred around 7 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 around the Oakland Park Boulevard exit in Broward County, leading authorities to close all northbound lanes of the highway.
A person involved in the crash told Florida Highway Patrol troopers that a woman also involved in the crash got out of her car and was struck by a vehicle while they were talking, Local 10 reported. The woman, whom authorities have not identified, was taken to Broward Health North, where she was pronounced dead, the station reported.
Four lanes of traffic have been blocked off and express lanes northbound are closed until after the Cypress Creek Road exit. Drivers can expect heavy delays.
Drivers should get on I-95 north of Commercial Boulevard and use 441, Federal Highway or Florida’s Turnpike as alternate routes.
The lanes have since reopened and heavy delays remain between I-595 and Oakland Park Blvd.
