A driver in Hollywood hit a cyclist Thursday morning, sending the injured cyclist to the hospital and shutting down a major roadway in the morning rush hour, police said.

The crash happened just before 6 a.m. at Sheridan Street and North 19th Avenue, said Hollywood police spokeswoman Deanna Bettineschi.

The bicyclist was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Bettineschi said. The eastbound lanes of Sheridan Street remained closed as of 9:50 a.m.

A white car remained on the scene at 6:30 a.m. and blood could be seen on the median, Local 10 reported.
