A 15-year-old girl was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after she was hit by a car while walking to school in Dania Beach, according to authorities.

The teen was crossing the road at Sheridan Street and Dixie Highway just after 7 a.m. when she was struck by a vehicle, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

She suffered a head injury but was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition, said Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Kane.

The driver remained at the crash site, the sheriff’s office said.

According to detectives, the pedestrian wore headphones when she crossed the street while the traffic light was green.
