Driver is killed, passenger critical after a crash in North Miami Beach, police say
A woman driving a pickup truck was killed and one of her passengers was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a car crash in North Miami Beach, police said.
The crash happened before 7 a.m. near Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 172nd Street, North Miami police told the Miami Herald.
The pickup truck was going north on Biscayne when the woman “lost control causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway” and go through a fence, said Sgt. Maria Pinillos, a police spokeswoman.
Pinillos said a passenger, a man, was hospitalized in critical condition while a second passenger, a woman, did not sustain serious injuries.
Helicopter footage from Local 10 showed what appeared to be a covered body next to a pickup truck on a grassy area. A fence was also knocked down.
The busy stretch is a couple of miles south of the Aventura Mall and in between Miami Gardens Drive and Northeast 163rd Street, which leads to the Golden Glades Interchange to the west.
