A pedestrian who was hospitalized with serious head injuries after a flatbed truck struck her in downtown Miami on Wednesday morning is expected to survive, police said.

Around 9:26 a.m., officers rushed to 133 NE Second Ave., where they found the woman in her 50s who had been hit, Miami Officer Michael Vega told the Miami Herald.

“Her head must have hit the curb,” he said.

A man behind the wheel of the truck was driving east on Northeast Second Street, making a right turn on Second Avenue, when he hit the woman who was crossing the avenue, police said.

The driver, who told police he saw the woman seconds before the crash, had the green light at the same time the pedestrian signal was directing her to cross the street, Vega noted.

“The driver was ticketed for failure to yield to a pedestrian,” Vega said.

The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.

The intersection of Northeast Second Avenue and Second Street was reopened after being closed for a couple of hours, police said.
