Miami Gardens fiery crash kills driver and sends another to the hospital, police say
A driver was killed and another was airlifted to the hospital early Thursday morning after two vehicles collided in a fiery crash in Miami Gardens, authorities say.
More than five Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded around 3 a.m. to State Road 7, near the intersection with Northwest 215th Street, where one of the vehicles involved was “fully engulfed,” spokeswoman Andrea Rudchenco told Miami Herald in an email.
Miami Gardens officers found the body of a man in a charred blue Infinity, and the driver of a gray Toyota was airlifted to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center, police said.
The surviving driver sustained “traumatic injuries,” Rudchenco said, and rescuers had to extricate the driver from the Toyota.
The cameras of CBS News Miami, the Herald’s news partner, showed an SUV with front damage and a burned sedan.
SR 7 was temporarily shut down from Northwest 207th to 215th streets. Officers reopened all lanes shortly before 9 a.m., CBS News Miami reported.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
