An eight-car crash on the Palmetto Expressway just south of Hialeah backed up southbound traffic past the big curve as Monday’s rush hour began.

The cars and debris from the 6:17 a.m. wreck just south of the Northwest 74th Street exit blocked the express lanes entirely and took out two general use lanes.

Monday morning Palmetto Expressway traffic backed up to big curve, as westbound lanes turn southbound, even earlier than usual from a crash down near Northwest 74th Street.

Florida Department of Transportation traffic cameras showed the backup to the big curve through Palm Springs North and Miami Lakes. Overhead shots from WSVN-Channel 7 helicopter showed one of the cars involved had red and blue lights that indicated it might be a law enforcement vehicle.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more is learned.
