Traffic alert: crashes blocking a causeway to Miami Beach and a major Miami street
Tuesday morning rush hour quickly got worse than usual just after 6 a.m. as crashes shut down Interstate 395 just before the MacArthur Causeway and Northwest 27th Avenue at 79th Street.
The former crash cleared around 7:35 a.m., but the traffic damage had been done. Since the 6:11 a.m. crash, Interstate 95 southbound traffic slowed to a slog and eastbound traffic on the Dolphin Expressway bumped along at stop-and-go pace back to the Northwest 27th Avenue exit.
Speaking of Northwest 27th Avenue, it should be avoided entirely.
WSVN-Channel 7’s traffic helicopter showed the 6:05 a.m. crash at Northwest 79th Street involved a car smashing into a bus stop and a body nearby covered by a yellow tarp. That crash had the southbound side shut down for a few blocks.
Up at the Northwest 87th Street intersection, two blocks were shut down for a Miami-Dade police investigation at the Avenida U Gas station. Down in Miami proper, a crash had 27th Avenue closed at Northwest 66th Street for two blocks.
