An SUV illegally stopped on Interstate 75 in west Broward County caused a severe two-car crash that killed an infant Thursday afternoon, troopers said.

Around 4:30 p.m., a 35-year-old Sunrise woman unlawfully stopped her black GMC SUV between the northbound inside lane of the I-75 Express lanes near Sheridan Street — she had a infant that was less than 2-year-old in the car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

A 29-year-old man, from Miami Gardens, was driving his white Ford Truck north on the Express lanes. The woman was attending to her infant in the back of the SUV when the truck slammed into it from behind, troopers said.

A picture of the accident showed that both vehicles were mangled.

The infant died from its injuries, while the conditions of the other two drivers are unknown.

It is unclear whether charges will be pursued in this crash.

This is a developing story.
