Fort Lauderdale police say the killer shot into the 2017 Mercedes Benz GLC 300 with Donner and McKenzie as the pair headed for the northbound Interstate 95 ramp off westbound Sunrise Road and kept firing as the car continued along the ramp. The Florida Highway Patrol said its search of the area found 18 total casings on Sunrise Boulevard.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue took both Donner and McKenzie to Broward Health Medical Center. Donner died before early afternoon, McKenzie died closer to mid-afternoon.

Westbound Sunrise between Northwest 16th Avenue and the entrance to northbound I-95 was closed from 2:26 a.m. until late Tuesday morning.
