Traffic alert: Fatal crash shuts down a stretch of I-95 in Broward County, reports say

Southbound lanes on Interstate 95 were shut down early Friday after a fatal crash near Broward Boulevard, according to early reports.

The crash, north of I-595, was reported around 4 a.m., according to Florida 511. Lanes were still closed as morning rush hour got going at 5:30.

“Traffic is at a standstill,” said Austin Carter, traffic reporter for Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami. “It’s going to be very slow.”

Some lanes opened after 6 a.m., but traffic was backed up in Central Broward to Sunrise Boulevard.

Alternative routes include State Road 7, Florida’s Turnpike and U.S. 1.

This bulletin will be updated.
