A driver in an SUV hit a woman trying to walk across Interstate 95, the Florida Highway Patrol said, killing her and shutting down the northbound I-95 express lanes as Thursday’s rush hour began.

Why the woman was trying to cross the interstate near Northwest 79th Street just before 4:30 a.m. is unknown. The lanes opened back up around 7:30 a.m.
