If you’re planning to drive this weekend in Miami or North Broward, take note: Law enforcement will be around, too.

Here’s what to know about two patrol operations targeting impaired drivers:

In Miami

What: Officers will be stopping cars at a DUI checkpoint.

Where: Southwest Eighth Street and 73rd Place in the Flagami neighborhood of Miami.

When: The DUI patrol and checkpoint will run from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday, Feb. 10.

Details: Miami police also will be swarming the area in what they call a “saturation patrol,” on the lookout for drunk drivers. “The goal of this checkpoint is to identify and apprehend impaired drivers before they can kill or injure others,” the police department said in a bulletin on the checkpoint.

What to expect: At the checkpoint, officers will be on the lookout for impaired and unbuckled drivers. Impaired drivers face arrest and those without tickets face tickets.

In Broward

What: The Broward Sheriff’s Office says it’s setting up a DUI checkpoint.

Where: In the Deerfield Beach area at 4150 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

When: The checkpoint will run 10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 to 3 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, according to BSO.

Details: “The goal of this operation is to deter impaired drivers who pose an immediate danger to the public,” the agency said in a bulletin.

What to expect: Deputies will be “actively enforcing DUI laws and identifying impaired drivers.”
