Three people killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 95 before 2023’s first Miami sunrise
Three people were killed and two others were critically injured after a car heading north on Interstate 95 crashed into a tree and around 4:40 a.m. Sunday, Florida Highway Patrol said.
Once the Nissan Altima careened off a Dodge Challenger, then smashed into the tree near the Northwest 95th Street exit, FHP said Lt. Alex Camacho said, “the vehicle caught on fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames.”
The crash closed I-95 north at the Northwest 79th Street exit, the last northbound exit in the city of Miami, from about 5 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
A Nissan Altima was traveling north on I-95 in the area of NW 95 ST. The Nissan lost control and collided into a Dodge Challenger. The Nissan then drove off the roadway onto a grassy area in the right shoulder, where it collided into a tree.The vehicle caught on fire, becoming fully engulfed in flames.There was a total of 5 occupants in the Nissan. 3 of the occupants died inside of vehicle. The other 2 occupants were possibly ejected from the vehicle, onto the ground. They were transported to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.The northbound lanes of I-95 were shutdown at NW 79 ST between the hours of 5am-10am.
