Tri-Rail train strikes and kills a pedestrian in Broward. Detectives are investigating
A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Tri-Rail train carrying more than 100 passengers Monday afternoon in Broward County, according to officials.
The train was traveling northbound when it hit a person on foot near the 4600 block of Powerline Road in Oakland Park, Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Claudinne Caro told the Miami Herald.
Deputies found the victim dead upon arrival, Caro said, adding that no train passengers were injured. BSO detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, Caro noted.
Tri-Rail spokeswoman Victor O. Garcia told the Herald that 155 passengers were aboard the train. He also said the victim was in an area where people are not allowed to cross.
“We currently have a bus bridge established between the Cypress Creek and Fort Lauderdale stations to transport passengers, until police clear the tracks,” Garcia said.
Authorities didn’t release additional information.
