A multi-car crash involving a tractor-trailer shut down Florida’s Turnpike in both directions for about an hour Tuesday morning near Hialeah Gardens, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Along with the carnage of an Isuzu landscaping truck colliding with four other automobiles at about 8:45 a.m., two Miami-Dade helicopters came to take trauma alert patients to hospitals, which necessitated the shutdown near where Interstate 75 and the turnpike intersect.

VIDEO REPORT FROM THE SCENE:

FHP said Miami-Dade Fire Rescue removed the Isuzu’s two passengers. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it took two people to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami and four others were taken with minor injuries to another hospital.

The road opened again around 9:50 a.m.

Miami Herald staff writer Michelle Marchante contributed to this report.
