One of the causeways connecting Miami to Miami Beach was closed for three hours Sunday
SUNDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: Miami police Tweeted at 2:01 p.m. that the causeway bridge had reopened.
People heading from the Miami-Dade mainland to Miami Beach or the other oceanfront cities Sunday morning or early afternoon should pick a causeway other than the 79th Street Causeway. The west drawbridge was malfunctioning, Miami police announced at 11:05 a.m.
Other options are: the Broad Causeway that’s Northeast 123rd Street on the mainland side and goes through Bay Harbor Islands and into Bal Harbour at 96th Street; the Julia Tuttle Causeway (Interstate 195 spur); the MacArthur Causeway (I-395 spur); or, if you don’t mind tolls, the Venetian Causeway, which comes off Northeast 15th Street in Miami.
The 79th Street Causeway goes from Miami through North Bay Village and into the North Beach section of Miami Beach.
