If you’re planning to be on the road Monday afternoon anywhere between Florida International University’s main campus and Miami International Airport, this traffic alert is for you.

Vice President Kamala Harris is visiting Miami to tout new federal funding to help states protect against the impacts of climate change. She stopped by the National Hurricane Center and FIU’s main campus just south of Sweetwater.

Harris’ remarks at FIU were anticipated to wrap up at 4:30 p.m., and then she is expected to arrive at the airport around 5:45 p.m., according to her schedule.

But which roadways will be affected? That’s where it gets tricky. The White House motorcade’s routes are customarily not shared in advance due to safety concerns.

Locals, though, can take educated guesses about which streets will be most affected.

Harris’ motorcade could head north on Southwest 107th Avenue before turning east on the Dolphin Expressway (State Road 836), arriving at the airport shortly after.

It could also head east on the Dolphin Expressway before turning north on the Palmetto Expressway (826). And from there it might head east on Northwest 36th Street.

Another option is driving east on Tamiami Trail (U.S. Highway 41) before heading north on the Palmetto Expressway. From there it can either turn east on the Dolphin Expressway or on Northwest 36th Street.

The turnpike also could be affected as it was on the motorcade’s route earlier Monday to the hurricane center and FIU.

Any of these options will likely momentarily halt traffic at several intersections as well as entrance and exit ramps along the highways.

Miami Herald staff writers Michelle Marchante and Alex Harris contributed to this report.
