An 18-year-old man from Fort Lauderdale was killed, Florida Highway Patrol said, in the Saturday morning crash that shut down Interstate 95’s southbound lanes at Sheridan Street for almost five hours.

FHP said the 5:15 a.m. crash happened when the Fort Lauderdale teen, on a 2013 Yamaha motorcycle, rear ended the 2008 Chevrolet Impala driven by 28-year-old Miami man. The teenager, whose relatives have yet to be notified, was launched from the motorcycle and hit the highway. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he died.

The highway was reopened around 11:10 a.m.
