11-year-old boy, adult killed in crash while pushing stalled Jeep in Hallandale Beach
An 11-year-old boy and a man died after they were hit by a vehicle early Sunday morning while pushing a stalled Jeep in South Florida, according to authorities.
The boy’s father, identified as an Uber driver, was in the area when he saw the stranded motor vehicle on the 800 block of East Hallandale Beach Boulevard. They parked, got out of their vehicle and began pushing the Jeep with the help of its driver when a gray Ford smashed into them from behind, Hallandale Beach police said Sunday in a news release.
The crash happened shortly after 1 a.m., Michael B. Kane, battalion chief with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, told the Miami Herald in an email Monday afternoon.
When officers arrived, they gave medical attention to the injured, who were transported to local hospitals — where the boy and the Jeep’s driver later died. The man who was driving the Ford remained on scene and is cooperating with authorities, according to the news release.
Police have not released the names of the dead nor injured, citing a law that protects victims of crimes, but added that they are working with the state attorney’s office as the investigation continues. Officers also did not release the ages of the three adults.
The condition of the boy’s father remains unknown.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to the families involved in this tragic event,” police said.
