A driver heading south on U.S. 27 in a dump truck lost control of the vehicle, crossed through the median, and slammed into a tractor trailer and an SUV in the northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The driver of the tractor trailer — who was not immediately identified — died in the truck. The 20-year-old dump-truck driver, from Miami Gardens, suffered minor injuries. The SUV driver, a 58-year-old man from Clewiston, was not injured.

The accident, which happened at about 4:30 p.m. near Mile Marker 40 in Broward County, shut down the expressway for hours.

A video from the scene taken by WSVN 7 News shows a damaged tractor trailer, a rolled-over dump truck and a crashed SUV on the western Broward County portion of U.S. 27.
