Two crashes involving big rigs have shut down a stretch of U.S. 27 early Tuesday in Broward County.

Helicopter video taken by TV news shows an 18-wheeler rolled on its side in the northbound lanes of the highway. Another tractor trailer also lost control on the same road in a separate crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Both crashes, which were not related to one another, happened near mile marker 39, troopers said.

One of the drivers was airlifted to the hospital in stable condition with serious injuries, troopers said. The other driver is OK.

The crashes are causing heavy backups in the area. Drivers are being directed to go northbound in one of the southbound lanes.

Drivers should expect delays or seek alternate routes.
