1 dead after 18-wheeler crashes through the wall of a home’s backyard in Kendale Lakes

A man has died after police say his 18-wheeler crashed through a wall of a home’s backyard in Kendale Lakes early Wednesday.

The crash happened along Southwest 127th Avenue and 51st Street and does not appear to have involved any other vehicle, according to Miami-Dade Police.

The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at Kendall Regional Medical Center, according to police.

Helicopter video taken by Total Traffic Miami shows the tractor trailer with heavy front-end damage near the pool of the home, chunks of broken wall surrounding it.

The truck, which appears to be carrying wooden fences, has the company name “Action Sod” printed on one of its doors. The Miami-based company is a professional grassing and installation services, according to its website.

The company was not available to be immediately reached for comment.

Police have shut down a section of 51st and 47th streets in both directions while MDPD’s Traffic Homicide unit investigates the crash and clean-up begins in the area. Drivers should seek alternate routes.

This breaking news bulletin will be updated as more information becomes available.
