2 officers, 1 driver taken to the hospital following crash on State Road 7 in Margate

Two Margate police officers and another driver were taken to the hospital following a crash on State Road 7 in Broward County.

The crash shut down the northbound lanes near Southwest Ninth Drive in Margate shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation.

Deputies say a Margate police officer was making a U-turn to head north on State Road 7 when the police cruiser collided with a red car that was also traveling north.

Video taken by Total Traffic Miami shortly after the crash showed the red car with heavy front-end damage on the grass and a damaged Margate police cruiser blocking the road.

The two officers inside the cruiser were “alert and talking to rescue personnel” before they were taken to North Broward Hospital, said a spokesman for Margate police. The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Northwest Medical Center.

None of their injuries are life threatening, according to deputies.
