Violent rollover crash shut down part of Bird Road in Southwest Miami-Dade

UPDATE: The affected lanes on Bird Road were reopened around 10 a.m. Friday. Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported that three people were in the car that rolled over. A woman was ejected and another man inside was also injured. Both were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Another man from the car took off running and was taken into custody by Miami-Dade police.

Miami-Dade police urge drivers heading to Bird Road at Southwest 127th Avenue to seek another route. The intersection is blocked.

At around 3 a.m., a black pickup truck and two-door sedan slammed into one another, flipping the truck onto its roof and sending the sedan careening along the road until it came to rest near a bus stop.

One person is dead and a man is in custody, said police spokesman Lee Cowart.

WSVN7 reports that police suspect the driver in custody may have been driving under the influence but Cowart would not confirm that detail.

The investigation is ongoing, he said.

Coral Way is one suggested alternate route in the Southwest Miami-Dade area.
