Rain delays cause traffic shifts, lane restrictions to begin this week instead of last

A traffic shift and lane restriction delayed a week ago because of inclement weather is scheduled to take place this week along Tamiami Trail in western Miami-Dade County.

A continuous flagging operation will be in place for about 60 hours, or until Thursday, to allow for the traffic shift on a newly widened stretch from Everglades Safari Park to east of Osceola Camp. During this time, only one travel lane will be open. Once the switch is complete, one eastbound and one westbound lane will be open on the north side of this stretch of roadway.

The Tamiami Trail roadwork is one of the highlights of traffic disruptions this week in Miami-Dade County.

Pipe cleaning operations will close three lanes through July 1 on North Miami Avenue, north of 36th Street; eastbound Northeast 36th Street west of Miami Avenue; and southbound Northeast Second Avenue north of 36th Street.

Meanwhile, ongoing work has closed the old loop ramp to Interstate 75 southbound from Miami Gardens Drive. Workers have since opened the new I-75 southbound entrance ramp from Miami Gardens Drive. At the same time, a new signalized intersection just west of the I-75 interchange was also activated to direct motorists to the new I-75 southbound entrance ramp from Miami Gardens Drive via a left turn.

On Interstate 95, two to three general northbound general-purpose lanes from Northwest 29 to 50 streets will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m the next day through Thursday. If necessary, the third travel lane will be closed at 11 p.m.

Continuous around-the-clock closures will take place on two northbound general purpose lanes from Northwest 29th to 50th street starting at 11 p.m. Friday and ending at 5:30 a.m. Monday June 19.

Also on I-95, the northbound and southbound express lanes will be closed nightly through Thursday from the Golden Glades Interchange to State Road 112 (the Airport Expressway) from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next day. Closures on Friday and Saturday will be from 11 p.m. to 11 a.m. the next day.

Up to three southbound general purpose lanes will be closed on I-95 through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next day from Northwest 83rd to 95th streets.

The I-95 closures are part of a project to build five emergency stopping sites on the express lanes from Northwest 62nd to 131st streets, and to replace the pavement from Northwest 29th to 79th streets.

On the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike, meanwhile, there will be nightly closures from Biscayne Drive north to State Road 836 (the Dolphin Expressway) for widening and express lane construction.

Single lane closures northbound and southbound through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. the next day between Biscayne Drive and Southwest 216th Street. Among the closures: the northbound Turnpike exit ramp to Allapattah Road through Friday at 4:30 a.m.; and northbound and southbound lanes between Eureka Drive and Killian Parkway through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next day.

Two Turnpike lanes northbound and southbound will be closed at various locations between Sunset Drive and Bird Road through Thursday from 9:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. the next day; and northbound and southbound lanes at various locations between Bird Road and SR 836 through Thursday between 9:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. the next day.
