This Florida school accepted kids with cartel ties. Where do students come from?
IMG Academy is a school that boasts having the “world’s most dedicated student-athletes.”
The vast majority of the Bradenton school’s students are from the United States, but with over 1,500 students from 74 countries across the globe, the student population at IMG is diverse.
According to IMG Academy’s latest demographic information, 29% of the school’s population is international. Some of the most popular countries that student-athletes from are Mexico, China, Japan, Brazil and Canada.
The Bradenton Herald recently reported that IMG Academy paid $1.7 million to settle a potential liability suit with the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control after accepting tuition payments for two students with ties to the Mexican cartel.
IMG says a significant number of students also come from Germany, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates, Puerto Rico, South Africa and Singapore.
IMG Academy boasts international student body
The school says the diverse student body fosters “cross-cultural learning experiences.”
The school, which has a population that is 71% male and 29% female, hosts a variety of sports for athletes to participate in, including basketball, baseball and softball, swimming, tennis, soccer and track and field.
In 2025, there IMG’s student-athletes made 300 college sport commitments, and 150 IMG athletes have been drafted to a professional league in the last 10 years, according to the school’s website.
