A man decided to buy a lottery ticket during a trip to a Publix grocery store — and ended up with a life-changing prize.

Fadil Begic won $1 million in the $1,000,000 A Year For Life Spectacular game, the Florida Lottery announced Aug. 4.

The 49-year-old Santa Rosa County man bought his lucky scratch-off ticket for $50 at the local Publix Super Market at Tiger Point Pavilion in Gulf Breeze, lottery officials said.

Begic beat 1-in-185,709 odds to win one of the game’s 234 second-tier prizes of $1 million, records show. No more of the top lifetime prizes remain in the game, which debuted in February 2023.

He visited lottery headquarters in Tallahassee to claim his prize as a $640,000 lump sum, according to the Florida Lottery.

Gulf Breeze is part of the Pensacola metropolitan area in the Florida Panhandle.
