After months of being stalked, a 13-year-old girl turned the tables and recorded the man she suspected of following her, according to investigators in Florida.

That video resulted in “a registered sex offender” being arrested Monday, July 21, the Sarasota Police Department said in a July 22 news release.

The suspect, 69-year-old Mark McGoldrick, is accused of trying “to lure” the girl into a vehicle the night before, police said.

“The girl was able to record the encounter on video before fleeing and later identified McGoldrick in a photo lineup,” police said.

“This was not the first time. McGoldrick has reportedly been stalking the same girl throughout the past year, often approaching her at her school bus stop when she was alone.”

McGoldrick, who lives in Sarasota, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking of a child under age 16, and loitering and prowling by a sexual offender within 300 feet of children, police said.

He was being held without bond on the stalking charge, records show.

Sarasota is about a 60-mile drive south from Tampa.
