Screaming man killed as he charges deputies with large knife raised, FL cops say
The search for a man linked to multiple stabbings turned terrifying when the suspect burst screaming through a doorway and charged at deputies with a knife raised above his head, according to Florida investigators.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, July 5, near Daytona Beach and the suspect was killed when deputies started firing, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said in a July 6 news release.
“Deputies ... found two people with multiple stab wounds and learned that the suspect was inside the residence. While making announcements for him to come out, deputies learned an additional person could be in the house,” the sheriff’s office said.
“Deputies and police formed a team to enter the house and rescue any additional victims. As the team moved through the house, the suspect suddenly charged out of a bedroom door, screaming with a large knife raised above his head. The suspect was shot multiple times by law enforcement.”
The man died at the scene. His identity has not been released as of July 7.
Two male stabbing victims, ages 16 and 39, were taken to a hospital and listed in stable condition, officials said.
No deputies or police officers were injured.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, which involved the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and police officers from Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach and Holly Hill, officials said.
Law enforcement officers involved in the shooting “have been temporarily placed on administrative leave, as is standard following a fatal shooting,” the sheriff’s office said.
Daytona Beach is about a 55-mile drive northeast from Orlando.
