A hockey player went into cardiac arrest and died after he was hit in the chest by a puck during a game, Florida authorities said.

The 64-year-old adult league goaltender for the Kraken Beers was playing at the Community First Igloo rink the night of March 25 when he was struck by a puck in a game against the Fireballs, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“He complained of feeling unwell and exited the game,” police wrote in an incident report.

Then he collapsed by the stands, and witnesses jumped in to perform CPR until first responders arrived to find him unconscious, officers said.

Fire rescue took him to a hospital still in his hockey uniform, and he was pronounced dead at about 11:20 p.m., according to the report.

Family members who were with him during the incident said he didn’t have any preexisting medical conditions, police wrote.
