The stakes were higher than normal as Florida police went searching for a woman’s stolen items after a robbery — because they were looking for a small living creature.

The Fort Myers Police Department said a 34-year-old man snatched a woman’s bag, including a 1-month-old kitten, on Jan. 30.

Detectives and the department’s intel unit used surveillance footage to track the man down, and they found an abandoned vehicle at his last known location, police said in a Jan. 31 news release.

They found the woman’s belongings inside, but the cat wasn’t in there.

Then, a flash of black-and-white popped out from under the vehicle and approached the officers, police said.

The woman confirmed the creature was her stolen cat, and the two were reunited.

The man was charged with robbery without a firearm or weapon and booked in Lee County jail on $10,000 bond, records show.
