A 29-year-old man accused of robbing multiple Florida gas stations at gunpoint near Tampa was arrested when rental car records identified him, deputies said.

Deputies responded to multiple calls Jan. 18 reporting armed robberies, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said in a Jan. 20 news release.

Investigators learned the vehicle the man was driving was a rental, and when they reached out to the rental company, they found out the man’s identity through a rental car agreement, deputies said.

An acquaintance of the man who reviewed surveillance footage confirmed he was the suspect in each robbery, according to the release.

The 29-year-old was arrested Jan. 19 and charged with two counts of robbery with a firearm, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and introduction of contraband into a detention facility, according to records.

The investigation is ongoing, deputies said.
